Selecting CompTIA A Plus Training Uncovered

The CompTIA A+ training program covers four areas of training; you’re qualified as an A+ achiever when you’ve passed the test for two of the four areas. Because of this, it’s usual for colleges to limit themselves to 2 study areas. The truth is to carry out a job effectively, you’ll need the training for all four areas as industry will require an understanding of the whole A+ program. Don’t feel pressured to qualify in them all, but we would recommend you learn about all four.

As well as being taught about building and fixing computers, trainees on A+ courses will be shown how to operate in antistatic conditions, along with remote access, fault finding and diagnostics.

It could be a good idea to consider adding Network+ training to your A+ as it will give you the knowledge to look after networks of computers, and become a more senior IT professional.

Don’t forget: the training itself or a certification is not what you’re looking for; the particular job you’re training for is. Too many training companies over-emphasise the certificate itself.

It’s possible, in some situations, to obtain tremendous satisfaction from a year of studying only to end up putting 20 long years into a tiresome job role, as a consequence of not performing the correct level of soul-searching at the beginning.

Make sure you investigate your leanings around career progression and earning potential, plus your level of ambition. You need to know what (if any) sacrifices you’ll need to make for a particular role, what accreditations are needed and how to develop your experience.

Seek out help from a professional advisor that understands the sector you wish to join, and who can offer ‘A day in the life of’ understanding of of what you’ll be doing with each working day. It’s good sense to discover if this is the right course of action for you before you embark on your training program. After all, what is the point in starting to train only to discover you’re on the wrong course.

A lot of training schools still use the rather old-fashioned idea of classroom days. Very often portrayed as a huge benefit, following a chat with most students who’ve had to attend a couple, you’ll hear a common theme of many or most of the following problems:

* Many back and forth visits – sometimes hundreds of miles each and every time.

* Workshop accessibility; often weekdays only and sometimes two to three days together. It’s not easy to get the days away from work.

* If we’ve got 4 weeks holiday each year, giving half of them to educational events often means losing out on family and vacation time.

* Workshops typically get way too big.

* Often, tension develops inside the classroom where students want to progress at their own pace.

* Rising travel prices – driving backwards and forwards to the training centre and of course accommodation over-night can cost a lot every time you have to go. With only 5-10 classes at a cost of 35 pounds for a single over-night room, plus 40 pounds petrol and food at 15.00, we find an extra four to nine hundred pounds of hidden costs that we now have to fund.

* Study privacy can be high on the list of priorities to many trainees. You don’t want to lose any job advancement, wage increases or accomplishment in your job just because you’re retraining. If your employer knows you’re taking steps towards accreditation in another sector, what will they think?

* Surely, all of us at some time have avoided putting our hand’s up, because we didn’t want to look stupid?

* Working and living away – a lot of attendees find they’re living or working somewhere else for part of their training. Days in-centre become very difficult then, unfortunately the money has already changed hands as part of your fees.

Wouldn’t it be better to watch a video and study with instructors one-to-one in pre-filmed modules, doing them at your convenience – not somebody else’s.

Just imagine… With a notebook PC you’re able to study in any location you choose. And 24×7 support is just a web-browser away in case you get challenged.

You have the ability to come back to any of the study units at any time you feel you need to. You also don’t need to take notes because the class is available whenever you want it.

The result: Reduced hassle, saved money, and no wasted travelling time.
